- Chris Silverwood was sacked after the Ashes lost 4-0 to Australia.
- Paul Collingwood has taken charge as interim head coach of the West Indies. The England team was crushed by the West Indies 1-0.
The former England all-rounder Collingwood insisted he was interested in the full-time role despite the defeat in the Caribbean, saying: ‘I put my hat in the ring and if they want us they know where I am.
“I don’t have a lot of experience as a head coach, but you’ll never get a job if you do.” I feel like what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks is a good start, but it’s only a start. If I had to move this team forward, I would want to improve them as soon as possible.
England Test Team Manager: Naseer Hussain backs Ricky Ponting as England team manager
According to former Test skipper Naseer Hussain, Ricky Ponting is the best possible man to take the reins of the England Test team. Hussain, in a Daily Mail article, said English cricket needed big and badly needed changes.
Hussain insisted on the following changes –
- Rob Key as Cricket Manager,
- Ricky Ponting as Test Coach and
- Ben Stokes as Captain
According to Hussain, these changes will add STEEL to soft England and move them up the rankings.
“To me, there is no finer brain in cricket at the moment than Ricky Ponting. He reads the game so well. One minute he is on a comment pointing out the problems with the technique of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green , the next green comes out just as Ponting predicted,” Hussain wrote in the article.
England will next play in red ball cricket when they face world Test champions New Zealand in a two-game series in June.
